Dr. Sara Werner JuarezDr. Sara Werner Juarez is an Assistant Professor of Special Education and coordinator of the Master of Arts in Special Education at California State University, Fresno. She is a faculty member in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development in the Literacy, Bilingual, Early and Special Education department. Her areas of expertise include methods in teacher preparation, evidence-based and inclusive practices for students with moderate to severe disabilities, peer mentoring/peer-mediated interventions, classroom management, and behavioral interventions. Dr. Juarez has a background in teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students with moderate to severe disabilities and implementing interventions based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.


Dr. Alicia Brown Becton

Dr. Alicia Brown Becton is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of the Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling. She attended East Carolina University to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance and received a Master of Science in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University along with a certification in Substance Abuse and Behavior Addictions. Additionally, Dr. Becton completed her doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with a specialization in Addiction Counseling at The University of Texas. Her current research agenda focuses on effective treatment modalities for highly marginalized groups (e.g., students with disabilities), cultural competency among educators and administrators, and employment among individuals in addiction recovery. Dr. Becton provides training in various areas related to cultural competency, socioemotional learning, and trauma informed practices. Overall, Dr. Becton takes pride in assisting students in fostering a sense of meaning and purpose, while working collaboratively with all stakeholders.
